Elettaria, Greenwich VillageSurrounded by low-key restaurants, random shoe shops, and independent coffee shops, it is easy to walk by and fail to notice Eletteria altogether. However, tucked inside is a great little spot, regardless of the occasion for your visit.

With one owner from the Philippines and the other from India, the chef here has opted to take a new spin on American, subtly adding elements common to those two countries to the dishes. Be sure to note the temperature controlled wine room to your right as you go to your seat and to peruse their creative drink menu. I recommend the 8th Wonder, which is chai infused for a little additional kick. Read the rest of this entry »

Hello there all you neighborbees.. This is Alexis signing in, and I’m back to share with you some noteworthy things going on in and around my neighborhood. Some other things besides restaurant reviews that you will see on this blog are reviews of bands, shows, etc. I love to go see live music, comedy shows, etc. and it’s been a busy month for me. I think I’ve been to 4 shows in the past two weeks.

So, one of my favorite venues these days is Highline Ballroom. They have general admission, but a big plus is they have tables where you can sit, enjoy a great view, and order food and drinks. They have some decent fare on their menu like popcorn with truffle butter and sliders, a personal fave. It’s great because inevitably you end up waiting an hour or so for the opening band to do their thing, set up, etc, before the actual band you’re there to see comes out. My advice is to get there early and snag the first table on the right in front of the stage right next to the DJ turntables. Some of my all time favorite shows have been there: KT Tunstall and SIA.

Living in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, I have been observing the steady transformation of 8th Street over the last few months. Now, I am not speaking of the historic St. Marks Street, which I’m pretty sure will never change, I am referring specifically to the section of 8th street between 5th and 6th Avenues. As one reviewer on-line put it, “West 8th Street is blowing up with all kinds of new places these days.” Gone are most of the seedy shoes stores, having been replaced by restaurants, wine bars, a jazz club, nice retail stores, and cafes. By the empty store fronts that have construction notices in the windows, it looks as if there is more to come. As I live close by, I fully welcome this change, and though I love shoes, the ambiance on this street has greatly improved. I have been frequenting a few places on this street in the last few weeks and have become quite neighborly with them – just like Cheers!
