First of all, I freaking love Ryan McGinley’s photography. His eye for composition is great, but more importantly, his photos also seem to effortlessly capture an energy and passion that are rarely seen anywhere. If I were the kind of person that no one wanted to talk to at a party I’d say, “he captures what it means to be a free spirit.” Thankfully, I’m incredibly handsome, charming, and wonderfully popular at parties, so I don’t say things like that.

Jen Dziura is a “nerd goddess” comedian who is well known for her Williamsburg Spelling Bee hosted on Mondays at Pete’s Candy Store (note: Editor Kate may have made it to the WSB finals in 2007, and her spelling skills and facial contortions may have appeared on YouTube).
For those who think that physical activity is scary (but also have a serious competitive streak), Dziura has yet another offering (this time, in Manhattan): Chelsea Mind Games.
Taking place this Wednesday at Chelsea Market, Chelsea Mind Games features “articulate music” by Al Duvall, a Vocabulary Tournament, and an interview with Dr. Sketchy founder Molly Crabapple, which features a lesson on how to draw the female form (live model included!). Prizes, refreshment, and booze are also available.

Spring is officially here, which means that it’s Opening season in NYC’s art world. Chelsea’s streets will be filled on Thursdays and Fridays with art lovers, scenesters, and people watchers all trying to see as much art (and drink as much free booze) as they can with in a two-hour window. Our Gallery Insider is an anonymous gallery employee, and she’s here to give you the inside scoop on where to go and what (and who) to see each week. After the jump, check out her recommendations for Thursday, 4/17, and Friday, 4/18.

Hidey Ho, Neighborinos!
My name is Nick McGlynn and I’ll be staying up late and rocking out at events so I can share the photos and good times with you!
Each week on Thursdays, I will choose an exciting party photo from a event that happened in the past week. I will then post that lucky pic along with a lineup of next week’s events. You can see the full photo albums and more on my website, RandomNightOut.com.
As Dion Dimucci would say, “I’m a wonderer” so I will be all over Manhattan, Brooklyn and anywhere else the parties take me! Don’t hesitate to say hi and have a drink with me if our paths cross!
The NYC party scene is smaller then you think so I’ll see you soon at “Nightlife on Neighborbee!”
