Dating in New York City - Holding Hans with Brian Hansbury: Happy New Year!
Did everyone have a great Christmas? Did you Jews in my audience enjoy Valkyrie on the day of Jesus’ birth? Talk about a double whammy, Hollywood!

If you are like me, your plans for New Year’s Eve are still undone. About as undone as you will be by the end of the night on the 31st. So, let us venture into some of the lesser-known options around NYC and the boroughs. These will not break the bank, as most of them are under $50. And let’s be realistic…$50 is less than what it will cost for you to go to some hole-in-the-wall bar near your pad including takeout from your local pizzeria. So cough up the dollars folks. And, being that you will be hungry the next day, I have included some options for brunch on New Years Day.
Keep to those resolutions, especially the one about coming here weekly.

2008 is almost over, and this Wednesday night is a holiday based solely on partying!! There are tons of events, and house parties are usually the most fun, but here are a few good ones I have selected for you to ring in 2009!
UPCOMING NEW YEARS EVE NIGHTLIFE ON NEIGHBORBEE:
Happy New Year, everybody! As 2008 draws to a close, it’s time to start thinking of New Year’s resolutions for 2009. Burn off those Christmas cookies. Climb out of debt. Get a better job. All those resolutions sound like hard work! Let’s add some fun stuff to the 2009 to-do list.

An eleven day vacation where the phrase “you can’t go home again” certainly comes into play. You see, I live a very out life while in New York, but when I head home to the country, and settle back into my parent’s McCain/Palin household my life becomes completely different. Things become very discrete and I must resort to sneaking out and reverting back to my high school ways. Well, high school involved me getting a blow job in the Barnes & Noble bathroom and getting together with college guys who also were convinced they were not gay, even though they just had a high school dude with his mouth around his dick. I won’t go back that specific route again!

Barbuto, West Village
To celebrate a friend’s recent graduation from the French Culinary Institute, we made reservations at the Chef’s Table at Barbuto. This allows you to sit in front of the kitchen area and watch the meal being prepared. The meal is three to four courses served family style, highlighting some of the best selections off of their regular menu.
Once we sat down, I would say the courses sort of blended together. I would classify it as four courses - appetizers, pastas, main course, and dessert. We glanced over to see them throwing together the salad. It was a frisee salad, with a lemon vinagrette, shaved fennel, cucumber, radishes, and what seemed to be a smattering of apples. It was very light, but an interesting combination. It was the vinagrette and fennel which made the salad. We were also served a fantastic bruchetta, which was bread topped by fresh creamy chunks of goat cheese and butternut squash. They were mixed with walnuts, rosemary, and chives and were atop a fresh wild arugula salad. Our final appetizer was fresh foccacia with proscuitto. I was actually disappointed with this offering. The foccacia was generic as was the proscuitto… but the other two options made up for this one falling short.

Tags:Christmas, Hanukkah, Happy HolidaysWell, folks, it looks like thrift is in fashion these days and I am happy to bring you more news about cheap stuff. I heard a story on NPR last weekend about bartering.
It features a company called Barter Business Unlimited, which exchanges goods and services for credit. I think it’s interesting to see our economy start to move toward basics. I know that for years folks like me and my sprawling Irish Catholic family have been in the minority in their spending habits, and for years I have heard economists tell me that if I spend money I am good for the economy, if I encourage others to be cheap like me, to buy second hand, to save their funds, well then I am free market enemy #1 (*see more on the paradox of thrift here).

I will not say I am an expert at spotting the difference, because I have crashed and burned on occasion, but to me there seems to be something exciting about the art of the flirt within the service field.
