Bee Spiritual: Get Renewed, with Marissa.

Times are shifting right now and things will be sailing a bit smoother in the Universe. With the ‘Reign of Bush’ almost to an end, we find ourselves hopeful and craving newness. Thankfully, your bi-monthly dosage of fresh spiritualness is here. There seems to be a bunch of spirituality going on in my second favorite borough - Brooklyn (first of course being Manhattan). So, get your Metro-card out, turn off your phone and get a clue. Heal your inner child, and play around this week(end). You deserve it.

Tip #2: Compliment one person (at least) each day.

Get cultural with your spirituality. Visit India (in Brooklyn) as you learn about Krishna’s explanation of life, death, reality, illusion and above all - destiny in a chamber opera performance. It is based on the Bhagavad-Gita, which is an Indian text that takes on real issues from a mystical perspective. War and duty are discussed as a colloquy between Krishna (the Hindu God) and Prince Arjuna who is about to embark in a fight of civil duty. In “Arjuna’s Dilemma”, explore Krishna’s wisdom, Arjuna’s misgivings and more at The Harvey Theatre within BAM. Shows are this Friday, November 7th and Saturday, November 8th at 7:30 pm. The Theatre and Museum are located in Fort Greene, at 651 Fulton Street. Tickets here.

With Flu Season upon us, leave the Western meds behind by avoiding the flu vaccine, and opt for some healthier, holistic options. Vaccinations are a point of concern for everyone, not just children these days. Build your immune system, save $20 (sometimes the cost of the shot) and avoid those nasty medicinal ingredients for safer, better options. Good Elements, whose store can be visited from the comforts of your own home, offer up some immaculate options. This company was inspired to it’s health-conscious height by witnessing the untimely and unfortunate death of their young close friend, from Cancer. They knew there was a better way. And this is it. Their multivitamin, Essentials is a sure fire way to fight off any cold, it’s up to you to keep things hot though.

Get all of the solace your overworked mind and body need at The Third Root Community Health Center. A center based in Flatbush offers yoga classes, acupuncture, massage, nutritional consultations and oh so much more to the general public. With classes at only $10 each, offering up names like Queer and Trans Yoga and Yoga en EspaƱol, you literally can’t go wrong. Bring a friend and make a day out of it - as you make your way over to 380 Marlborough Rd (at Cortelyou Rd) . While you are in Flatbush, make use of your time wisely. Visit The Flatbush Food Co-Op storefront, located down the street from Third Root, at 1415 Cortelyou Road. For you train-hoppers, take the Q to Cortelyou Road.

Get your Tai Chi on. This timeless, Eastern tradition will help you develop your internal power! Who doesn’t need some more of that. With gracefulness, you are taught slow and deep meditations promoting health, and easing into movements to help you grow and bond your mind, body and spirit. Tonight November 7th from 7-10 pm, find yourself - and tickets - at New York Open Center. Becoming a superwoman (or man) may not happen overnight, but you will feel like changing your clothes in a phone booth tomorrow morning; That’s for sure.

The Manicured Man. No, not a real manicure - some spa treatments. And not out and about at a spa. And it’s not really only for men, so us ladies can make the purchase too! Whether you play on a league or mess around with your little nephew (or just gave birth), and notice you are not in the shape you used to be - feeling like an old, creaky dude (or dude-ette)…you should listen up. If you have joint pain, inflammation,or stiffness and need flexibility - Arnica is the answer. This proved remedy which is most popular amongst herbalists and organically farmed here in the US, will help you out of pain as long as you consistently use it. Yummy ingredients (though not edible) include: grapeseed oil, hazelnut oil, basil, rosemary and more. And no; It won’t have you smelling like Aunt Flora’s kitchen. You can make your smart, albeit indiscreet purchase at Naturopathica.

After all of that Tai Chi, be sure to use some Arnica on your joints to get the flow moving in the body. Celebrate with some flu-free Opera and the next morning, wake up to some chanting and yoga in Brooklyn. Follow up your enchanted few days with some fresh fruits and veggies from The Flatbush Food Co-Op, and you my friend, have taken the train out of the Concrete Jungle to Spiritual Town, all in just a couple of days. Be easy, NY…be easy.
