Dish Buzz: Free-bees!
Unfortunately yours truly has been hit by a double whammy, sinus infection (no biggie) on top of a stomach bug. That’s meant, unfortunately, no fun culinary exploration within the city this past week. But just because I’m eating a bowl of bland oatmeal or toast doesn’t mean you shouldn’t all check out some of these great free offerings available around the city over the next week (and if you know of others, please please add those in the comments - we love that!).
As it ’tis the season, this upcoming Friday all Chipotle’s in NYC will be doing their annual Halloween tradition of encouraging those in search of free food (AKA free burritos in this case) to arrive ready to order dressed in your favorite attempted rendition of a burrito (or taco… or whatnot). Chipotle is definitely not a cheap burrito, but this is for those who are truly committed as your window of opportunity is limited to from 6PM to close. We encourage submission of photos of any participants!
Be sure to friend Wafels and Dinges on Twitter for their daily secret code to receive free goodies. Typically it’s a free topping… unlimited toppings… something of that variety. Anyhow, it’s continual free-ness that you should not miss out on. They’ve even added a BBQ waffle (personal verdict still pending) for those of you prefering something of the more savory variety.
And finally, it’s a little early, but I figured never too early to note and especially due to the corresponding cause it supports. Next Tuesday, participating Ben and Jerry’s locations are giving away free scoops from 5PM-8PM to those who vote. They define voting as anywhere from a photo in front of the polling site, that fantastic sticker you get afterward, or even as they phrase it doing the “I Voted dance”. Anyhow, VOTE, and then claim your prize. Makes life sweet on both accounts.

An update, Krispy Kreme is now also offering free donuts on election day in the shape of a star if you have voted. Very nice.
