Q:  I cheated on my girlfriend two months ago and just found out I have genital herpes. I don’t know how to tell her, but she’s obviously going to notice. What’s the best way to break it to her without losing her?

A:  First things first, you cheated on her; so, you’ll probably lose her.  Not so secondary things second, you more than likely gave her genital herpes; so, you’ll probably lose her (although the argument of no one wanting her damaged goods might make her feel useless enough to stay with you).  If you’re intent on asking for forgiveness, here are some facts and figures to quote that might help paint you as just an average, flawed American as opposed to an asshole:

In regards to Jim Hensen’s Muppets, there are two kinds of worlds: a muppet world where humans exist and a human world where muppets exist. The reason I bring this up is that I sort have been dealing with this in my own life.

You see, I am a gay man living very much in a straight world surrounded by straight friends who like to go to straights bars and I am sure you get the point I am trying to make.  Before I go any further I want to make it clear: I adore my friends. They have stuck with me through some really rough patches and I consider them to be my family in NYC! There comes a point though, where I want to really go out and have a chance to find friends who enjoy the same thing, do they same thing and understand exactly what I am going through.

Q: The guy I’m dating won’t make eye contact.  This would normally be a deal breaker, but he’s really hot otherwise.  How do I fix him?

A:  So, this guy you are dating seemingly does not enjoy the sight of your face, but this doesn’t faze you because you find aggressive Asperger’s Syndrome appealing.  Do I have this right?  This guy must be hotter than Simon Rex in a rub n’ tug video for you to put up with this awkward behavior.

Back in high school I was called a “string bean” and I am pretty sure while I haven’t heard it said to my face, that term still could be applied to me today. I really have no qualms about the way I look and I am quite pleased with the man I have grown to be, especially over the past few months as I became more and more accepting of my sexuality.

Yet my appearance has always been a big issue for me, especially as I attempt to work my way into the superficial entertainment industry where I’m constantly being judged on the way I look. Lucky for me I have high self-esteem and don’t take comments or criticism on my body type, receding hairline or voice to heart. That being said, I decided it was time to put this new Out Paul into gear and revamp my overall appearance.

One of my favorite spots for Italian food in the city is Barbone. Yes, Avenue B can be a little bit of walk over for those not living in that section in the East Village, but this one is worth it. The restaurant has a small, intimate feel, perhaps from the direct interaction the owner has with the patrons every time I have been  there. Somehow, the restaurant itself has plenty of room to accommodate a nice number of patrons per evening. They have an outdoor patio area I’ve yet to experience. Perhaps will squeeze that in before the cold arrives to stay.

Well, that blaze-and-noise boy, he’s gunnin’ that bitch loaded to blastin’ point
He rides head first into a hurricane and disappears into a point

And there’s nothin’ left but some blood where the body fell, that is, nothin’ left that you could sell

Lost in the Flood

Life is a mystery. We all wander through hoping somehow we find something, a sign, that says You’re doing this right. And the truth is no one really knows. So we fearlessly wake up each and every day, brew our cup of coffee, look in the mirror and say to ourselves Here we go. If you have ever felt like Bruce looks here, keep reading.

Are you warming up to Fall? Here are some of the things we’ve been looking forward to.

Boog City Festival: Sept. 18 through Sun. Sept. 21 Poetry and Music at various locations throughout the city. Check out the performances. I’m looking forward to the Small, small press fair and hitting up the Race and Poetry: Integrating the Experimental discussion taking place on Sunday at Unnameable Books.

Jonny Farrow: Soundwalks — Saturdays — September 20, 27 and Sunday October 5. “We will be listening to urban zones of transition between residential and commercial soundscapes.” The 9/20 and 27 soundwalks will begin at 2 pm. We will meet at the Prison Ship Marty’s Memorial in Fort Greene Park and go onto Fulton Mall ending at Junior’s for refreshments. The 10/5 walk will be centered on the Gowanus and will begin at the OA Can factory at 5:30pm (sharp!) to be followed by an open forum on the urban soundscape. Visit Canary Project for more details.

Kim Deitch: A Retrospective at MoCCA Opening Sept. 21. Deitch will also be at the Strand Bookstore on Thursday, September 18, at 7 p.m. to discuss Deitch’s Pictorama and give a dramatic reading of “The Sunshine Girl,” with the help of artist Pamela Butler. Read more about Deitch at the Voice.

Broadway Fleamarket: 21 Sep from 10am – 7pm in Shubert Alley (225 West 45th Street). Up close and personal live performances in the alley, obscure goodies (Lea Salonga albums on casette! That touring company playbill that my favorite Marius performed in before he got Les Miz!) Performers manning booths. If you’re lucky, costumes are sometimes up for grabs as well. (Years back, my friend scored Yassmin Alers Out Tonight dress.) If you have some dough to splurge, there’s the auction as well. And hey, it benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. I hear there’s also going to be a photo scavenger hunt going on this year.

NY Craft Beer Week: September 12 - 21 Perhaps you’re getting some Sixpoint Sweet Action right now. Or perhaps I’ll see you at Black Rabbit bar imbibing some Liquid Gold.

Buckminster Fuller Symposium: show closes Sept. 21st. Isn’t this enough reason to go?

Madison Square Park: Free concerts Saturday afternoons, September 20th, October 4th. Hey they’re free and you can grab a Shake Shack burger. Mmmm… they won’t be closed in the winter (they’ll have heaters) and they take phone orders!

I met Tom when he first moved to New York and he had this genuinely smitten, doe-eyed view of the city. It wasn’t naive, but actually completely refreshing and made you fall in love with the city all over again through his eyes. Even now, over 5 years later he hasn’t lost that.

Aside from being half of one of my favourite couples ever, he’s been writing, directing and producing skits and videos with his friends since college. I was excited to see Scissor Cop #5 viewed at the New York Television Festival this year! (He also does a kick-ass karaoke rendition of Hall & Oats’ Private Eyes.)

Name: Tom Silvestro

Occupation: DC Comics Coordinator

Borough/Neighborhood: Greenpoint, Brooklyn
