FUNNY VOICES: The Del Close Marathon Is Upon Us

Starting today, people will be attempting the impossible, pushing through exhaustion and body failure to go the distance in a test of endurance, patience, and skill.

No, not the Olympics. Those are boring. I speak of The Del Close Marathon!

Now in its tenth year, DCM 10 (or DCMX, as it would have been known in 1996) is a 72 hour marathon of improv on 4 different stages in Chelsea. Teams from across the country descend upon Manhattan to be a part of a weekend-long celebration of made-up hilarity.

The marathon, named after the guru of improv Del Close, has something for everyone. Want to see comedians you watched on the Tee Vee? Cool; check out The Daily Show/Colbert Report Jam at FIT at 8:30 pm Saturday, or Horatio Sanz and The Kings of Improv, same place, Saturday at 11:30 pm. Want to see some of the weirdest, oddest stuff you’ve seen on a stage? You’re adventurous; check out ANY show from 1:00 am-4:00 am each night at UCB Theatre or Urban Stages. Or perhaps you just want to see some solid improv from some of New York’s finest? Catch Police Chief Rumble at 6:30 pm or Super CageMatch at 12:30 am tonight, both at Hudson Guild Theater.

Weekend passes are available for $25 at UCB Theatre box office (307 W. 26th St.), although be warned: the pass will get you in to all shows BUT the ones at FIT, and of course, those are the shows where the fancy pants improv shows are happening.

Full schedule is listed here: Make with clicky!

Good luck, and take some water with you to stay hydrated! Sitting in a theater seat for 8 hours is more exhausting than you’d think.
