Hive of Style: PinkyOtto in Nolita

PinkyOtto: 3 locations
East Village 307 East 9th Street, New York
Nolita 49 Prince St, New York
Williamsburg 112 S. 1st St. (at Bedford Ave), Brooklyn

Back in Nolita, my brunch buddy and I wandered past the spangley jewelry vendors on Prince Street, unambitiously pursuing the overcrowded Pinkberry on Spring Street. Fortunately, we discovered another kind of pink diversion: PinkyOtto, the 2nd offshoot of the East Village boutique.

Sized no bigger than a modest walk-in closet, the Nolita outpost is fixed on three walls with racks of dozens and dozens of short dresses, arranged by color and in refreshing disregard for style or formality. Sparkling, heavily beaded shifts are sandwiched next to gauzy belted swingy dresses and floral print jumpers. The overarching sense is that most of the store’s wares fall into the short/mini-dress category.

PinkyOtto is self-described as “a boutique for the girl in every woman who is looking for that unique piece that compliments her individuality and sense of style.” I couldn’t agree more - as long as that individuality/sense of style is situated somewhere between coquette and mod squad. In other words, if you’re in dire need of a dress for this weekend’s wedding in Long Island or a last minute dinner date, PinkyOtto’s got you covered - well, at least up to mid-thigh.
