Hi bees,
I woke up this morning all prepared to write a post listing appropriate shows to see for every taste… and then I realized that it would have to be, like, six pages long if I wanted to cover all of the worth-it shows that are out right now. So instead I’ve decided to focus on one demographic at a time. If today’s choices aren’t for you, then kindly pass them on to a friend!
Today’s five suggestions are for:
The hip 20-something who’s not interested in falling chandeliers or flying nannies

(Let’s put it this way: if you were to say "Mary Poppins", they would probably think you were talking about drugs.)

For those who don’t know, Pandora is a brilliant web site that allows you to create your own internet radio stations. You give it a list of bands and songs that you like, and it uses this information to decide which songs to play for you. Besides playing music that you already like, it will (in the best case) introduce you to new bands that you’ll enjoy. That’s actually how I’ve found some of my favorite bands, including one that I saw in concert a few weeks ago .
There are people in this world who will tell you that Pandora is worthless. They’ll say things like, "It always thinks that I want to listen to Twisted Sister when I really want to listen to Neil Young." Or they’ll say, "It plays the same stuff over and over again."
The thing about Pandora is that you’ve got to have a strategy. Those of us who know and love Pandora know how to build good stations. Here are some tactics that I’ve learned over the years.

One of the largest problems with our increasingly digitized age is what to do with all of our electronic stuff when it breaks or becomes obsolete. On top of the sheer tonnage, eWaste has toxic components (lead, mercury), that contaminate soil and make groundwater undrinkable.
This is why events like this Saturday’s electronic recycling drive are so great. Hosted by Tekserve and Lower East Side Ecology Center , you can get rid of your old computers, printers, phones and cameras in an ecologically responsible way, AND get a chance to win a MacBook Air or iPod Touch!
This neighborbee will be dropping off the 7.5 lb Dell laptop and external CD burner that’s been collecting dust under her bed for 4 years, that’s for sure.

Since this weekend is supposed to be crappy and completely unlike the awesome weather of last weekend, we at neighborbee blog thought that we’d offer up something fun (and free!) to do when you’ve emptied your DVR and run out of Rock of Love 2 reruns.
The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Workspace residency program provides studio space and support for a diverse group of selected emerging artists and writers. Starting this Friday and ending on Sunday, LMCC will open its 15,000-square-foot Tribeca studio space to the public during Open Studio Weekend.
Visitors will be able to see a showcase of the work completed by the 20 Workspace artists and writers during the nine months of their residency. Events include fiction and poetry readings, as well as film and video screenings. (For a full schedule, click here .) As we mentioned, all events are free and open to the public, but make sure you RSVP .

First of all, I freaking love Ryan McGinley’s photography. His eye for composition is great, but more importantly, his photos also seem to effortlessly capture an energy and passion that are rarely seen anywhere. If I were the kind of person that no one wanted to talk to at a party I’d say, “he captures what it means to be a free spirit.” Thankfully, I’m incredibly handsome, charming, and wonderfully popular at parties, so I don’t say things like that.

Few things are more contested in Manhattan than king of the slice. Artichoke is one of the newest offerings, located in the East Village just directly east of Union Square on East 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue.
As Chris noted in his column, there can be quite a wait, which often depends on luck of the draw as well as whether they happen to be super backlogged with those already waiting for their slices. If you are expecting a clear menu of options, be forewarned there’s nothing of the sort here (although I have heard rumblings that should be changing). In the meantime, the cashier will recite the three types of pizza offered - their eponymous artichoke offering, Sicilian slices, or Neapolitan. They also had baked artichokes, cannoli, and complimentary warm bread. They also occasionally have pasta and offer sandwiches, but no such luck when I went.
I opted to try one of the artichoke slices (which consisted of lots of cheese, artichokes, and spinach), and one of the Sicilian. I was told it would be a while, so I had them tack on a cannoli ($1.50) and a complimentary slice of bread. The bread was so fresh - just the right touch of yeastiness. I was impressed it was warm, since it was just sitting on the countertop. (Note: you have to ask– they won’t necessarily offer!)

Today is Earth Day - the day when we guilt ourselves into reusing that cup at work and not running the water while brushing our teeth. While New York is getting dirty in some other ways, the talk of “going green” lately has been deafening. It’s a wonder that New Yorkers aren’t doing simple things that would not only cut back on our use of resources, but also save money. It all starts at your local bodega.
I don’t know how many times I’ve been offered things I don’t need. Even worse, I don’t know how many times I’ve had to specify to the cashier that I don’t need a bag. It should go without saying. Here are some simple guidelines that I think every bodega in New York should adopt. Not only will they save the earth, but they will save them money, which could be the biggest motivator of all.

Jen Dziura is a “nerd goddess” comedian who is well known for her Williamsburg Spelling Bee hosted on Mondays at Pete’s Candy Store (note: Editor Kate may have made it to the WSB finals in 2007, and her spelling skills and facial contortions may have appeared on YouTube).
For those who think that physical activity is scary (but also have a serious competitive streak), Dziura has yet another offering (this time, in Manhattan): Chelsea Mind Games.
Taking place this Wednesday at Chelsea Market, Chelsea Mind Games features “articulate music” by Al Duvall, a Vocabulary Tournament, and an interview with Dr. Sketchy founder Molly Crabapple, which features a lesson on how to draw the female form (live model included!). Prizes, refreshment, and booze are also available.
