Hive of Style: Brooklyn Flea

On an overcast and somewhat chilly Sunday morning, I was sitting on the sofa, flipping through the TV when I got a text from a friend: Brooklyn Flea today? Perfect!

Turns out, it was opening day, and some 200 vendors set up shop in the 40,000 square foot playground of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, making Brooklyn Flea the largest flea market in New York. Curated by Brownstoner.com, the Flea is open every Sunday from 10 am to 5pm, rain or shine and the offerings include the standard flea finds like vintage clothes and furniture, as well as a glut of talented local jewelry designers.

My favorites after the jump.

Victore NYC

Part of the Supermarket collective of independent designers, Victore NYC does these awesome earrings-cum-earplugs. I can’t tell you how many times I spent the better part of the opening act fishing around the bottom of my bag in search of the elusive second earplug. No mas! Ladybuds, $30

MOLLIEdASH

Eco-conscious Dash creates unique pieces from discarded jewelry, thrift store finds, or what she finds on the street. Check out this pendant necklace that was once part of a chandelier. Most of her pieces are one of a kind and made to last. Crystal Necklace, $115

Ryan Kundrat Jewelry

A stack of these rubber and sterling silver bracelets is an elegant & modern homage to the jelly bracelets of yesteryear. Kundrat’s earrings and necklaces reflect the same minimalist styling punctuated with a pop of color. Hoopla Bangle, $30 each
