Gallery Insider: Week of 4/28 |

There’s a spring chill in the air this week, which means that you should probably a.) drink for free and b.) go someplace inside. Combine both of those and you’ve got yourself some gallery openings! Our Gallery Insider is an anonymous gallery employee, and she’s here to give you the inside scoop on where to go and what (and who) to see each week. After the jump, our Insider opinion on Josephine Meckseper and David Altmejd.
Thursday, May 1
Josephine Meckseper, “Total War Sales Event”, Elizabeth Dee Gallery, 545 W. 20th Street
Meckseper likes to address the tough stuff, and in this show she’ll be turning the gallery into a political zone, her signature display/set installations question the current political climate, the mortgage crisis and threat of recession, and the rationale behind 5 years of war in Iraq. Look for this show to push a lot of buttons, but maybe they’re buttons that really need pushing.
Saturday May 3
David Altmejd, Andrea Rosen Gallery, 525 W. 24th Street
If you like giants, mirrors, glittering surfaces and crazy sculpture, or if you want to see a good example of how it’s done, go here. Altmejd represented Canada at the last Venice Biennale and has work in the collection of the Whitney and Guggenheim museums– you’re only going to be hearing his name more and more.
p.s. the Rolling Rock goes fast, so if you want some don’t get there any later than 6:45 pm.
